On 26 August 2008, construction of Phase I of Pingdingshan No. 2 Power Plant started, which is the first 1000MW project ratified by the National Development and Reform Commission in the program of ‘replacing small capacity units with large capacity units’. A total of 6×1000MW ultra supercritical coal-fired units will be installed with 2 to be installed for the first phase. Adopting such environmental measures as de-Sox, SCR, wastewater recycling and so on, the project will help save 630,000 tons of coal and reduce 15,000 tons of SO₂ every year.
