 08.01.22

On January 21, the 2008 Annual Conference of CPI was held in Beijing, defining the three-step development strategy and putting forward a goal of developing worldwide first-class energy enterprise.

In 2007, the major economic indicators of CPI continuously climbed up with installed capacity reaching 43 GW, electricity generation 191.1TWh, coal production 34 million tons and non-ferrous metal 430,000 tons; energy saving and pollutants emission reduction endeavor made remarkable achievements manifested by annually shutting down 27 small units with a total capacity of 1840 MW, 43 units accumulatively with a total capacity of 2290 MW; the annual input in energy conservation and consumption reduction as well as environmental protection amounted to 1.9 billion RMB; newly started FGD upgrade units numbered 21 with 5800 MW and annually completed FGD upgrade units registered 7×990 MW, driving the total capacity of FGD units to 15300 MW; Coal consumption for power supply stood at 357.7g/kWh, dropping by 5.56g/kWh year on year. In 2007, CPI outperformed the annual performance indicators defined by the State-owned Assets Supervision Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), and was awarded a title of A Grade Enterprise and Special Prize for Performance Progress during 2004-2006 operating performance evaluation by SASAC.

Based on the guiding principle and strategic concept on the future work of CPI, the conference defined a three-step strategic goal: in three years, CPI will achieve 70 GW of controllable installed capacity and 70 million tons of coal production capacity, with more unique industrial characteristics and advantages of resources and geographic location; in another five years, CPI will achieve 100 GW of controllable installed capacity and 100 million tons of coal production capacity, will form a pattern with five conventional energy bases, five energy and industrial clusters, three nuclear power bases and two new energy bases, and will become a domestic leading energy enterprise with unique industrial advantages and prominent cluster and synergy effect; by 2020, CPI will achieve 140 GW of controllable installed capacity, 140 million tons of coal production capacity, aiming to drive its total installed capacity to make up 10% of the total capacity of China. By 2020, CPI will spare no efforts to establish it as a worldwide first-class energy group with unique comprehensive strength and distinctive ability for sustainable development both at home and abroad.
